Despite being a "down ballot" candidate, Gus Alzona (1,243) received more votes from local Republicans than did Ron Paul (951), Newt Gingrich (1,083) and others in the April 3, 2012 Republican Primary election (Montgomery County, Maryland). This is a noteworthy achievement for Alzona who - having started just under three months before the election - managed to run a credible campaign with only a handful of volunteers, little money and virtually no endorsements. Alzona's campaign brought pro-liberty, religious freedom and social conservative issues to the forefront, despite the establishment's well financed agenda to make the 2012 elections more about government spending, taxes, etc.

Alzona had a slightly lower overall vote total (2,542) in the District 8 Republican Primary than back in the 2006, when his main campaign issues were opposition to the failed neo-con foreign policy, the Iraq War, the so-called "Patriot Act" and America's slide towards becoming a police state. Nonetheless, Alzona is happy with what he accomplished this time, despite being armed with just a t-shirt, a Gadsden flag and a humble campaign.

And finally, the best news of all, is that Gus Alzona is now free to spend more time with his family and on his professional career, especially after almost 20 years of faithful volunteer service to the community at large and to the Republican Party in particular.

"Without true freedom you cannot choose your faith; without faith, you will not have peace; without peace, you will never have true prosperity"
- Gus Alzona, March 2012

Gus Alzona earned a grade rating of "A" by the Heritage Alliance - an American constitution based family association which does comprehensive candidate research (posted at www.ivoterguide.com) on those seeking federal office. Alzona rated higher than all the current 2012 presidential candidates on the Maryland ballot!

Selected as an "Outstanding Community Volunteer..." by the Gazette Newspapers, 40th Anniversary "40 WHO CARE" program, "profiling the unsung men and women of Montgomery County who volunteer their time to help others."

During the two terms he was elected by the voters to serve as a Legislative District 16 Member on the local and state central committees (1998-2002, 2006-2010), Alzona was the ONLY local Republican Party official who rallied AGAINST the big government-corporate-welfare-warfare-state, socialism and the tyrannical policies of the administration and Washington establishment.

Maryland Catholic Conference, 2012 Congressional Candidate Comments by Gus Alzona, U.S. House District 8, to the question "Why should Catholics vote for you?" -

"Gus Alzona, a music minister and longtime activist Catholic, has a proven record of defending the faith, the church and traditional family values. Protection of innocent life and religious freedom has been a hallmark of Alzona's political career. As your representative he would work hard to restore America as a constitutional republic that values freedom, faith, peace and prosperity over the dark forces of hate, secularism, war and imperialism..."
